Sapte Residence, Mumbai

Sapte Residence, Mumbai

An ode to the true essence of being a Maharashtrian, this residence design combines technology with Marathi and Indian heritage. From common areas of the house that elaborate upon minutest details, to more contemporary and chic bedroom designs, this house is exemplary of all values of its residents. The living room ties all the other parts of the house together into one. It flows effortlessly into the kitchen, the dining and ends up into bedrooms on both its ends. Well equipped with a central cooling system and a home theatre, it has been designed to accommodate a larger group of people.
Built to suit, the bedrooms, at the either ends of the house, have been particularly designed to cater to the needs and activities of the person inhabiting the space. Having seen Mrs Sapte’s love for cooking, the master bedroom was kept closer to the kitchen. In order to make it bigger, two rooms from the earlier layout of the house were fused to make it one. This extra room which was taken over, has been used to create a walk- in wardrobe such that the bedroom is devoid from any kind of storage and feels large. Like the Paithani used in the living space, the Rajasthani mural in the headboard, adds colour to the master bedroom. Other than wood, the only other material one sees is brass. While wood is used in the furniture and flooring, brass has been used as the handles for the storage units. These handles have been carefully designed such that they don’t poke out and are neatly seen as a strap of brass under the wooden surface.
